Luke 6:27-31 (NKJV) 27 "But I say to you who hear: ...,
The ability to understand what others are saying is sometimes miss leading, circumstances, and inflections will confuse the message. To listen without distraction is often difficult, however the life of the individual speaking says volumes. What should we do, I am so glad you asked.
Jesus is usually surrounded by crowds, they all want the attention of the healer, the one who supplies needs, Jesus looks into the crowd and says, "to you who listen." The Lord knows most will not listen, they are too busy getting what they want, He is about to share what a person needs to be identified with salvation in Jesus Christ.
First, unconditional love, that is loving those who attack you, second, deliberately doing something of value for another, even if they hate you. Thirdly we are to bless the person who has made a point of lashing out at us, fourth, we are to ernestly pray for the betterment of the one who has chosen to harm you. Fifth we are to give, that is we should supply to the one asking, what they need. The emphasis being on treating others as we wish to be treated, however we must realize these things are accomplished only in the power and presence of the Lord. This type of love is supernatural, it comes through a personal relationship to the Reedemer, Jesus. Do you know Him, then these qualities are your life style, do you want to do these things, then you must get to know Him!
Heavenly Father, let us see in others their hurts and their needs that they might see You, in us. Help us to consider the other more important than ourselves, and let those who long for You find You in the lives of those they associate with. Amen
